The purpose of the Scholarship Fund is to give financial aid to members of St. Luke's to obtain post-secondary education.
This aid will be given regardless of any other sources of scholarships or financial means to the individual, and is not subject to any pre-determined academic achievements or qualifications.
The Scholarship Fund will be administered by the Mezezers Scholarship Committee which will be composed of four Church members and the Pastor. The Scholarship Committee will annually recommend to and obtain Church Council approval for all scholarships given.
The original Committee will serve until 2003. Beginning with the election of St. Luke's Church Council in 2003, one-fourth of the Committee will rotate off and a new member be appointed, each year in January, by Church Council. Rotation will begin alphabetically.
For an individual to be eligible for a scholarship, he or she must be, for at least one year prior to applying for a scholarship, an active, confirmed member of St. Luke's Church. An active, confirmed member will be a member as defined by the Constitution of the Church and he/she involved in current Church activities. It will be the Scholarship Committee's responsibility to determine whether or not an applicant for a scholarship is an active member of the Congregation.
Applicants must be accepted to and maintain full-time status at an accredited institution of higher learning. Full-time status is defined as maintaining 12 semester hours or the equivalent. An accredited institution will be a four year school, two year school, trade school, or any equivalent academic institution approved by the Scholarship Committee.
All recipients must maintain at least a C average and be progressing towards a degree//certificate to be eligible to maintain their scholarship status. Copy of grade average must to be supplied to the Scholarship Committee before the next installment is awarded.
All scholarships will be granted for a one year period and awarded, per term, pending eligibility. An individual who is not maintaining good academic status as defined above will not be eligible for further scholarships, for the year or term, until these requirements are met.
The Mezezers scholarship endowment will allow annual scholarships to be given in an amount not to exceed the aggregate earnings from the endowment for the preceding twelve months prior to giving the scholarships. This earnings period will be from June 1 to June 1 of any given year. In no circumstances will the amount of the annual scholarships given reduce the principal of the endowment.
It is the St. Luke's Finance Committee's responsibility to be the trustee of the scholarship funds and make all investment decisions regarding the fund's assets.
The annual amount of and number of scholarships to be given will be decided at the sole discretion of the Mezezers Scholarship Committee. It is not imperative that a certain number of scholarships be given in any year.
The scholarship funds granted to an individual may be used at his or her discretion. The intent of the scholarship is for the funds to be used for tuition, books, and other costs of attending school.
All applications for scholarships must be received by the Mezezers Scholarship Committee by June 1 prior to the beginning of each school year.
Scholarships will be granted by the Committee by July 15 of each school year and paid in equal academic calendar payments.
Applicants must re-apply and be approved each year for their individual scholarship.
